Speaker:  Pastor Susan Sumwalt-Patterson spoke to the club today on the Rainbows Program for Children aged 3-18. It is for all children that have experienced a loss whether in Death, divorce, deployment, or incarceration.  It is a National program that Pastor Susan looked into due to her own personal experience of the death of her mother at age 13 and the gap that existed in communities. She first began the program when serving a parish in Denver and has not started the program here.  Groups are divided  by age and type of loss and they try to keep group sizes small (3-5). Sessions are 13 weeks in length and are held winter/spring and fall. There is no limit to the number of sessions a child may attend. Parents may drop their children off, they may stay and have coffee but are not involved in the session at all.  Volunteers receive 8 hours of training to become facilitators and require a background check.  They are always looking for volunteers, if interested, contact Pastor or check out their website and give them a call.  There is no charge for the children to attend, but they do accept donations to help support the program.
